Meet the Team Principals for F1CRL Season Five

By Bigryeguy98

F1 22 has been released and that means a new season of F1CRL is fast approaching. League moderator Jeff has decided to introduce a new system of roster management where team principals control two teams and four drivers to contend for the championship. Thus far, the addition of team principals to the league has garnered very positive reception from the drivers. Media team newcomer Bigryeguy98 has put together this interview series to introduce the team principals to the rest of F1CRL.

Can Bigryeguy98 lead his teams to the top again?

With two F1CRL driver’s championships and one constructor’s championship under his belt on F1 2021, it’s no secret that Bigryeguy98 is a fast racer. However, Bigryeguy98 taking the helm as Team Principal at Scuderia Ferrari and Alfa Romeo will present new challenges. Will he be able to lead both teams to success? Will he crack under the pressure? Here’s what he had to say:

  • What got you into F1 and why did you decide to be a team principal for the upcoming season?
    • I got into F1 2020 during COVID lockdown and got into IRL F1 shortly after. I decided to be a Team Principal because I enjoy the strategy component of F1 and believe I can help both teams and all four drivers be successful in the new season.
  • Now that F1 22 is released, do you have any thoughts on the new game?
    • I won’t be able to play the new game until July 8th, but from what I’ve seen I think I’ll enjoy the new game. The differences in setup and the changes to the handling sound like they suit my driving style.
  • Which driver in your team are you most excited about having and why?
    • I believe I’ve put together a great team of drivers who can compete for the championships right off the bat. Beyond once again being teammates at Ferrari with my mate Alex, I am most excited about having KB at Alfa Romeo for the upcoming season. We are both fast and have been championship rivals in the past, but we have always had mutual respect for each other. Now that he’s at Alfa Romeo I’m excited to see what he can do alongside the Season 1 F2CRL champion Say.
  • What are your goals, personally and for your team, for the upcoming season?
    • I believe our teams can compete for both championships right off the bat and I hope both our teams will be competitive for wins and podiums each race. Personally, I hope to continue to find pace after turning off traction control on F1 2021, and being better about tire and ERS management over the new 50% race distance.
  • Which team/driver are you considering your rival for the upcoming season?
    • Haas and McLaren as usual seem quick under the leadership of Ghost so both of those teams will likely challenge Ferrari and Alfa Romeo for the constructors. I would consider PCC-Godly and KB my main rivals for the driver’s championship.

Will Ghost_726 take the step up to the championship?

Ghost_726 has been a very fast and consistent racer in F1CRL. However, his consistency hasn’t necessarily translated to championship success. With only one win under his belt, Ghost_726 will need to take a step up if he’s to compete for the championship. With Ghost_726 announced as Team Principal for Haas and McLaren for Season Five, we asked him some questions in preparation for the new season:

  •   How did you get into sim racing/F1 and why did you decide to be a team principal for the upcoming season?
    • I started sim racing around the time season 1 of the CRL was ending. I decided to take on the role of team principal because I really enjoy the team and community building aspects of sim leagues.
  • Now that F1 22 is released, do you have any thoughts on the new game?
    • I’m really enjoying it so far. Like real life, the cars seem to behave a lot differently, so there’s going to be an adjustment period and potentially shake up in the pecking order. I do wonder if the rear traction is supposed to be this poor, but we’ll figure it out.
  • Which driver in your team are you most excited about having and why?
    • Honestly, that’s a tough call since I already have a relationship with all of the guys on the team Kenny and I go back to a sim hockey league, and we raced together in S2. Incident and I have obviously been teammates and champions for two seasons now. And Godly and I were teammates in another F1 league before I dragged him over to CRL. But if I had to pick one driver that I’m excited about on track, it’s probably Godly. Everyone already knows what Incident can do, and Kenny had a real renaissance year last season. I think this season could be Godly’s chance to really break out and make a push for some individual accolades.
  • What are your goals, personally and for your team, for the upcoming season?
    • As a driver, my goal is the same as it’s always been, to compete for maximum points. The league continues to get more competitive, so I don’t really expect to be suddenly challenging for wins. I’m hoping to be scoring most weeks, and competing for the odd podium. From a constructor and super-constructor stand point, I expect to be competing for championships. Both of my team’s have stud #1 drivers and selfless, team-first #2s that can score consistently. While we don’t have the raw pace of some other team’s, I think we can make up for it in consistency.
  • Which team/driver are you considering your rival for the upcoming season?
    • It’s hard to say this early in the season. On paper, Ferrari / Alfa Romeo have the most pace, so they’ll likely be our biggest competition in the constructor and super-constructor championships. But I’m not sleeping on the other teams, especially since I haven’t seen any of them race the new cars.

Will Mercedes and Williams be competitive under Jmtitan10?

Jmtitan10 has taken over as Team Principal at two teams which he has raced for previously: Mercedes and Williams. He has driven in every F1CRL race so far, but he is still seeking his first podium and win in competitive league play. Will the season be the one where he gets his first podium or win? Or will he and his teams be drowned out of the midfield by the other constructors? Here’s what he had to say in preparation for the new season:

  • How did you get into sim racing/F1 and why did you decide to be a team principal for the upcoming season?
    • I had some friends who got really into F1 and sim racing and recommended I get into both. So I watched Drive to Survive and thought the sport seemed really interesting so I started watching races and got the game. That rolled into me getting a wheel and getting pretty hooked.
  • Now that F1 22 is released, do you have any thoughts on the new game?
    • I like it. Driving feels good, game looks good, I’m excited for racing.
  • Which driver in your team are you most excited about having and why?
    • HAL is a longtime teammate and I look forward to seeing what we can do with the new cars and compare to the stronger field.
  • What are your goals, personally and for your team, for the upcoming season?
    • I’m aiming to use no assists in any races this season, and my goal is to become a consistent point finisher by the end of the season.
  • Which team/driver are you considering your rival for the upcoming season?
    • I anticipate us competing with AlphaTauri and Red Bull this season, but with HAL’s strong driving I think we could likely best them. Personally I’m looking at Juzzy and Bode as my main on-track rivals this season.

Can Juzzzyb lead his teams up the field?

Juzzyb has been a long-time racer in F1 CRL. However, the rising quality of the field has meant that his points per race numbers have subsequently gone down each season. With Juzzzyb announced as Team Principal for Red Bull and AlphaTauri, many are interested to see if Juzzzyb can lead his teams up the field in the new season. Here’s what he had to say:

  • How did you get into sim racing/F1 and why did you decide to be a team principal for the upcoming season?
    • I’d always played racing games as a kid and had slowly been sinking more and more time into them. After playing far too much f1 2020 I decided to put myself a sim rig together. I was approached by Jeff about being a team principal and given an offer I couldn’t refuse.
  • Now that F1 22 is released, do you have any thoughts on the new game?
    • I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, I’ve been on a scuba trip 40 miles off the north east coast of Australia for the past few days.
  • Which driver in your team are you most excited about having and why?
    • I’m excited about racing with moose again, we have a great chemistry and have worked well together on teams previously.
  • What are your goals, personally and for your team, for the upcoming season?
    • My personal goals for this season are to score points after a pointless run last year. For the team, I’d like to try to bring us off the bottom of the constructors standings.
  • Which team/driver are you considering your rival for the upcoming season?
    • This one may come across a bit odd, but my constant rival in racing is one of my own drivers, bode. In F1 and Gran Turismo we have had some great fights and I’m looking forward to doing it all over again this season.

Will WilliamLebowski make his mark on F1CRL from the pit wall?

WilliamLewboski has been announced as the Team Principal for Alpine and Aston Martin for F1CRL Season Five. Whilst waiting for crossplay to be released, Lebowski will need to make his mark on F1CRL from the pit wall this season. With the addition of Fkuanton, perhaps this is the season WilliamLebowski can take his teams to the top. We asked him some questions in preparation for the new season:

  • How did you get into sim racing/F1 and why did you decide to be a team principal for the upcoming season?
    • I got into sim racing in 2019 while I was spending a lot of time streaming on twitch. I also had just stopped racing my bike at this point due to an accident and lack of funds to keep racing in the upcoming seasons. I had played racing games in the past and started to see people doing these amazing series and events just like the real world events. This got me really excited because I know I’ll never spend any time in a real race car on a track and I knew I still wanted the competition of racing. So I started playing games like F1 with controller support, then upgraded to a wheel. From the first second of my first drive with my first wheel I knew I had found my thing and a replacement for cycling. I became a principal because I’ve wanted to be involved in F1CRL since Jeff started it. Additionally from my team based endurance racing experience I’ve gained since Jeff started the league, I knew I could help provide a healthy environment like my team manager/owner does for TGM SimSport.
  • Now that F1 22 is released, do you have any thoughts on the new game?
    • I haven’t played the game yet.
  • Which driver in your team are you most excited about having and why?
    • I am incredibly excited about everyone that has decided to come race on Aston Martin and Alpine. Everyone who joined took a chance on being on my team and I appreciate that a lot in a teammate. But I am incredibly excited to race with Anton because we have been friends for years bonding over motorsport but have never raced or done a lap together.
  • What are your goals, personally and for your team, for the upcoming season?
    • My goal for myself is to get up to speed right away (after cross play is introduced). My goal for my team is to create an environment where people can improve, have fun, feel like they are a part of something, and feel like they can compete with the field.
  • Which team/driver are you considering your rival for the upcoming season?
    • Say is considered my rival for this season. But it’s because he acted like he was too good to join Aston Martin when he was asked.
